About the Artist
Georgia Long
the art life

Born and raised in The Greater Los Angeles, my art life seed was planted by my
mother, an art teacher. An early education and exposure to museums, galleries, and encouragement.
I am a 30-year plus resident of Humboldt County, northwest California. I reside and work in Eureka, California.
My art tracks parallel paths, alternating between Impressionism and Abstract, and recently, Japanese ink painting.
Design, composition, texture, rhythm are important elements in my work. I work in oils,
cold wax, graphite, and paint sticks with painting knives - impasto technique.
SUMI-E — Japanese Brush Painting
This path began with my interest in the Chinese/Japanese tea world and it’s aesthetics. From grinding the ink through wet mounting finished works. Unlike oils, the absoluteness of the ink, the elegance of pure black and white, the intention of the stroke draws my interest. Not the traditional scapes, nature, and florals, but in-the-moment abstracts and the daily, ritual Enso practice. Disciplined, yet free.
